Skype, vous connaissez ?
C’est un logiciel qui permet de téléphoner gratuitement, d’ordinateur à ordinateur. On peut se parler de manière classique, avec un micro et des hauts-parleurs, ou un casque avec micro intégré. Mais le plus sympa c’est de passer par une webcam!
C’est génial de se voir par écran interposé, avec les images qui accompagnent le son. Vous allez me dire, ça n’a d’intérêt que lorsqu’on est loin des uns et des autres : au lieu d’une simple conversation téléphonique, c’est toujours mieux de voir ses petits-enfants évoluer lors de vidéo-conférences régulières.
Eh bien, oui, mais pas que. Par exemple, quand Stéphane partait travailler pour la journée, je restais en contact avec lui grâce à Skype et la webcam. Ca nous permettait de travailler efficacement (rapidité d’échanges d’infos et de documentation) : lui en centre ville, moi à la maison en train de garder Luc. Quand il retrouvait Lisa pour manger à midi, on s’appelait pour se souhaiter “Bon appétit” et papoter un brin, image à l’appui. D’ailleurs, c’est l’intérêt de la webcam : on a les mains libres et on peut vaquer à ses occupations tout en continuant la conversation, la caméra capte super bien le son! Et pour les timides, vous n’êtes pas obligés de laisser l’image, le son suffit.
Bien sûr, Skype permet aussi de communiquer par “chat” (ouverture d’une fenêtre pour y taper un texte), ainsi que d’envoyer des fichiers. Bref, un outil que je ne connaissais pas mais que nous avons adopté avec plaisir!

It’s a is software that allows users to make free phonecalls over the Internet (computer to computer). You can talk the usual way, with a microphone and loudspeakers, or with a headphone. But of course, the main feature is the use of a webcam! It’s great to see each other while chatting. One could object it’s useful only when both interlocutors are far from each other : instead of a regular phonecall, it’s much nicer to actually watch your grandchildren during a video-conference.
True. But sill, I liked to use it when my husband Stephane went out working for the day : I would keep in touch using Skype and the webcam. It allowded us to work efficiently, him in town, me at home while taking care of my son Luc. Then, Stephane would fetch our daughter Lisa to have lunch together, so we would call each other to chat a bit and see each other. That’s the whole point with the webcam : it’s hand free and you can keep doing other stuffs around, while chatting, the webcam picks up the sound very well! If you are shy, no need to let the image on, sound is good enough.
On top of that, Skype includes the usual : instant messaging and file transfer. In short, this is a tool that I didn’t know, but now we enjoy it alot!
